Earth friendly dental products
More and more of us are becoming more aware of environmentally friendly products for ourselves and our home and the dental industry is no different. Here we’re taking a look at some products available to the UK market. We’re not endorsing them, simply letting you know that if you’re looking for more ‘green’ products they out there. Many of the greener products are ethically sourced and vegan too which is a plus.
Toothbrushes
Wooden toothbrushes are now widely available and can often be found in the larger supermarkets as well as online. Whilst research shows that electric toothbrushes give a better clean for teeth and gums using a wooden toothbrush for 2 minutes a day, twice a day is better then nothing. Useful if you’re planning on going camping or tour cycling, after lockdown of course!
Floss
Dental floss is an integral part of your health care regime but is traditionally very environmentally unfriendly. Companies are now producing dental floss made of corn-starch plastic which is far more environmentally friendly. If you struggle with using floss then there are also corn-starch dental floss picks available, although the picks themselves are not made of plastic the floss is nylon.
Electric Toothbrush Heads
Studies have shown that using an electric toothbrush to clean your teeth and gums has a greater benefit than a manual toothbrush but all those used toothbrush heads have to go somewhere, usually landfill. Live Coco have a system where you send back your used toothbrush heads and they will recycle them. Although at the moment their toothbrush heads are only compatible with Oral B toothbrushes with a round head. Let’s hope they can extend the range in future to include more types of electric toothbrushes.
One stop shop
A great place to start is www.thehumble.co who offer a wide range of environmentally friendly dental products, often available on the high street too. You’ll also find a range of products at Holland and Barrett, both in store and online.
Happy Shopping!
